Remeber, Freedom is for all people!
Hey everyone,
Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving! Had a great time myself! went to my inlaws as always. They are so kick back and easy going(exact opposite my family!), both families have there place and are quite fullfilling in their own ways. I enjoy what time I get with both families. The only complaint I have about Thankgiving at the inlaws is, the next morning when I wake there are no leftovers. Oh well, life is good if that's all we can complain about. I had interesting conversations(on the political & economical fronts) with several family members. The sad thing of this is that we are almost always on the same exact page when it comes to those subject(sigh)! We weren't on this day. I feel like that is a serious & dangerous developement in this country due to the information age(and not neccessarily accurate)! So my family member says " My wife and I have boycotted Wal-Mart". I say"Why". They say " well, me econ. class in college has really opened my eyes to the revenue they extract from our economy, & give to china's economy". So I thought about it. We really don't think things thru these days. We just take it for someone elses word and boom, bang we got ourselves another cause. So I say" what about the billions of dollars a year the wal kids donate to christian charities, christian missionaries, christian causes around the world"(keep in mind we are all christians of different varitities in our families)" does this mean anything to you?" Well he conceded a bit, but it was not enough for him. So later as I pondered the way that our capitalist society has gone, I thought of two points that really hit home and continue too strenghten my faith.
#1 In any society perfection is lacking, but capitalism seems to be the closest. If you really delve into the economics of this country & compare them to the economics of say a socialist country in europe & a communist country. You will find that the statistics regarding the poor and needy, the rich, and the middle class (even tho we still have some, like every other country) far outdo any other country and their government. With capitalism we strive to make living less expensive with more opportunity to own and aquire material things. With capitalism it does not matter if you come from a different country or from the ghetto, if you strive hard enough and have the drive you can become a millionaire, or better yet a billionaire. Me, I'm still working on my first mill, but I don't see it as an impossibility.
#2 We tend to want our cake and eat it too. So what I'm saying is, I need a new T.V. for my daughters room, but I don't want to spend 1,000+ $ for it. What do I do? Shop around of course & when I find that cheaper buy, I just saved $500 toward our new HDTV in the living room( I Wish. So what if I bought it at wal-mart, or best buy, or target, or kmart. These companies may be making someone really rich, but it is also making a whole bunch of investors(you know our nieghbors) rich too. Good for them, it was an investment that paid off for someone, NOT FOR EVERYONE.
#3 So who here thinks that China is less likely to attack(nuclear) a world that is making them very rich? Not to mention that capitalism will infect that coountry with a desire for freedom eventually. I guess it's a better game plan than telling China to go ...k themselves and start a nuclear war. There is always two sides to the coin folks. Make sure you think things thru before jumping on the cause bandwagon(most likely it's stuck going in circles, keeping people down instead of helping them out. Ex. NEW ORLEANS). bye for now! Time for dinner! Peace!

You're right on, Bear. I mean, the whole point of developing trades relations is so that we don't end up blowing each other up over stupid stuff. Obviously, if I'm doing business with you, and you're filling my coffers, well, Bless ya, Bruthah, your mah new best friend! Hello!
I get really annoyed when people complain about the big businesses coming in and eating up the small ones. Yeah, I can empathize with the small businessperson who's just had to close the doors on their mom'n'pop shop, but at the same time, as we continue to evolve from the industrial age to the technological age, everyone has to adjust or go bust! When we evolved from the agricultural age into the industrial age, there were the same complaints. The farmers couldn't sell their crops by themselves anymore, but they found a way around it and learned to work with their fellow-business people to find ways to symbiatically evolve together. And, I'm pretty sure that most people would agree that today's lifestyle is far preferable than those days. There's nothing wrong with nostalgia, but that's what the tourism industry and renaissance faires are for.
The farms didn't completely disappear. The small businesses don't have to either. It just means that you're going to have to find a niche, a specialized market for people who don't want to let Walmart provide them with their baby's first cradle and would rather buy the new family heirloom from a woodworker, rather than buy a peice of plastic from a major chain. We have to adjust our ways of thinking to survive. We just have to open up our minds to newer ideas and ways of looking at things. That's what makes times like these so exciting!
you got it Jess, well said. I like the adjust or bust. We are intelligent beings, givin the ability to work(our minds as well as body), we need to do just that. Sympathy & Empathy have there place when nostalgia is in play, or historical significance, but to stop the developement of an ever changing world is lunacy at worst & hypocritical at best. To much of the not in my backyard syndrome going around these days. God bless, bro Bear
